Khao Sok and the Burma Border

VIP Discovery Tour

Itinerary

DAY 1: (L,D)

We pick you up at your hotel and travel north off Phuket Island across Sarasin Bridge, in air-conditioned comfort. We wind our way through the jungle landscape until you reach Khao Sok National Park. Khao Sok is the old heart of southern Thailand, famous for its stunning visual landscapes and unique nature.   Khao Sok National Park is approx. 650 sq km and is the largest area of unspoiled jungle in southern Thailand. Well known for its wildlife, Khao Sok has become a Mecca for nature lovers in southern Thailand. This is where your adventure begins - with a three tonne elephant! You will trek on the back of one of our elephants for 2 hours through the Tropical surroundings of Khao Sok area.

After your elephant adventure, we will take you to a local Thai restaurant for a selection of delicious Thai foods.

In the afternoon, we take a short trek through Khao Sok National Park for a closer look at what nature it has to offer.  We return to a jungle lodge with time to relax before dinner.

Dinner and overnight in jungle lodge in Khao Sok, with the sounds of the jungle lulling you to sleep.

DAY 2: (B,L,D)

After a hearty breakfast embark on a canoe trip down the Sok River, through the heart of Khao Sok. Bask in the surrounding amazing scenery of limestone jungle-covered mountains rising out of the lush landscape. What better way to explore this jungle river than from an inflatable canoe with an expert to paddle for you - or of course, you can paddle yourself if you wish. The trip is between 1½ and 2 hours in length depending on the season and water levels.

After canoeing, return to the jungle lodge for lunch, in the pleasant surroundings of a Thai-style restaurant.

After lunch we take the road north to Ranong. En route we stop to see a waterfall in the jungle and pass mangrove forests along the coast. Ranong is a town famous for its Natural Hot water Springs and Spas, which we will visit in the afternoon. The night market in Ranong has a strong Burmese influence.

Overnight in Ranong local hotel.

DAY 3: (B,L)

Burma is just a short river crossing to the trading town of Ko Song the.  We board a local boat for the half hour river crossing to Ko Song.  As a frontier trading centre, Ko Song is the ideal place to barter for local goods and view the bizarre range of produce on offer, including semi precious stones, laquerware and wood carvings.  Ko Song is also renowned for its hilltop temple.  From the brightly coloured mural and serene statutes you have a birds eye view across the town and river, back to Thailand.

For those not wishing to cross to Ko Song, take the morning to explore the local market in Ranong, and absorb the mix of Thai, Burmese and Islamic cultures in this fishing port town.

After lunch, we drive back down the coast to Phuket. Drop off at Phuket International Airport and hotels on Phuket Island. If you wish to be transferred to Koh Samui or Krabi, please ask for details.
