RUNG
HILL
Rung
Hill is rather small in stature lying at the back side
of the town. For people to see the sights of the
vintage point is regarded as the best place to view the
spots around Phuket.
OLD
BUILDING
Built
for more than 100 years, these building portray Thai characteristic
and heritage although architecturally they are blend of
Chinese and European styles. Connoisseurs have dubbed
the buildings "Sino Portugeses" as they are
not so tall with accent on depth more than on width.
The doors and windows have handicrafted patterns of fine
workmanship. If you happen to be on Deebuk road,
look for these buildings and you will be delighted.
SIRAY
ISLAND
This is a small island lying to the southeast
of Phuket. It is a single sheet of land with Phuket island
with a small canal serving as a demarcation line.
The inhabitants, are known as Sea Gypsies. There
is a temple and a large Buddha Image on the apex of this
island.
SAPHAN
HIN Mining Monument Cape
Here lines at the end of the road extending slightly
into the sea. It is the site of a 60 year old Monument
set up in memory of Captain Edward Thomas Mile, an Australian
pioneer who brought the first dredger for mining operations
in Thailand. For the people of Phuket, this place
is for recreation as well as for close relationship with
nature.
PHROMTHEP
CAPE
This cape is located at the southern tip of Phuket
island. Easily accessible by car, the top part of this
cape is plain having a high cliff along the edge of the
sea. From this point, you can look out to
the sea and islands nearby. Many tourists come here
particularly in the evening to see the sun setting below
the horizon. They say that Phromthep cape offers
the best view.
CASHEW
NUT FACTORIES
Cashews are a small but important product
of the Phuket. Cashew trees thrive here, and line
many of the roads on the island. See how the cashew
kernels are extracted, one by one, at factories on the
island.
KHAO
PHRA THAEO WILDLIFE PARK
It is the only perfectly preserved rain
forest abundant in flora and fauna in Phuket where people
can encamp and experience outdoor life all year round.
MARINE
BIOLOGICAL RESEARCH CENTRE
Tourists interested in marine lives are
recommended to go the Phuket Aquarium situated on the
secluded Phanwa Cape, 10 km from town.
Wat
Chalong
This temple is Phuket's most beautiful
and renowned monastery. It enshrines the gilt statues
of monk-hero Luang Pho Chaem and his assistant Luang Pho
Chuang, both much revered by local people because
of their roles in quelling the miner rebellion in 1876.
