MAE HONGSON
"LAND OF THE THREE SEASONS MIST"

Another wonderful side trip from Chiang Mai is to travel northwest to the sleepy little town of Mae Hongson, hidden deep in a valley ringed by majestic mountain-ranges and befitting of a Shangri-La. Within the town are some Burmese-style temples distinguished by their tottering multi-tiered roofs, while the surrounding countryside offers some breathtaking views. Other attractions include Karen hilltribe villages (long-neck women) and mysterious cave dating back to prehistoric times.

How to get there
There are daily fights from Bangkok to Mae Hongson via Chiang Mai by Thai Airways. If time permits, it is worth making the circuitous 360-kilometer journey by road which winds spectacularly through some of the north's finest hill country.
